BNP Paribas invests in fintech-focused VC firm Anthemis
French multinational banking group BNP Paribas has invested in global fintech venture capital firm Anthemis.
The undisclosed investment from BNP Paribas’ Global Markets Strategic Investments unit is part of the company’s wider strategy to partner with high-growth fintech companies to provide them support and leverage new services for the group’s own clients.
It follows a series of investments in other fintechs and digital firms, including Kantox, Symphony, Saphyre and Forge.
BNP Paribas head of global markets Olivier Otsy says Anthemis has a “strong track record” in fintech investments.
“We are not only investing in the fund but also looking at potential partnerships and co-investment opportunities which will support the capital markets industry and develop the next generation of fintech champions.”
Founded in 2010, Anthemis’ focus on fintech and insurtech has seen it amass a portfolio of notable start-ups including eToro, the social trading and investment network, and Azimo, an international online money transfer firm.
BNP Paribas says Anthemis and its portfolio will benefit from the multinational’s incubation centre and partnership model for external industry players.
