Sydney fintech start-up Cape makes tech and product leadership hires
Australian start-up Cape, an expense management software provider, has appointed Julian Guppy as chief technology officer (CTO) and Andrew Fanner as chief product and marketing officer (CPMO).
Guppy joins from alternative lender Capital On Tap, where he led and scaled the London firm’s engineering and development team “from humble beginnings when the start-up was just a couple thousand SME customers strong”, says Cape.
“He laid the foundations to allow the business credit card provider to grow locally and internationally under one code base to over 150,000 SME customers in a relatively short window, without needing to scale their customer facing operational staff.”
Commenting on his appointment, Guppy says that being an entrepreneur himself, he was “drawn to Cape’s incredibly inspiring mission to help every business take charge of time, money and ultimately their future”.
Fanner spent the last decade at Cashplus, an SME challenger bank also based in London, where he was responsible for the product and marketing functions.
A core part of his focus was leading the build-out of the firm’s digital product capabilities such as their mobile apps, online banking, application forms, open banking usage and integrations such as Faster Payments.
“Having followed Cape’s journey since inception 14 months ago, I’ve been hugely impressed with the strong vision set by Ryan [Edwards-Pritchard, founder and CEO of Cape],” says Fanner.
“Cape isn’t a start-up you come across very often, hence I jumped at the opportunity when the CPMO role emerged.”
Cape says it is building “the APAC’s first spend management platform that issues virtual corporate cards designed to help companies strengthen their cash flow”.
