First JCB card issued in India with NPCI partnership
JCB International has launched its first brand card to be issued in India in partnership with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and Indian banks, reports Jane Connolly.
Aimed at serving the needs of outbound Indian travellers, the RuPay JCB Global Card can be used at card accepting points for RuPay in India and for JCB outside India for both point-of-sale (POS) and ATMs.
Many Indian banks will issue the new card, including State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Axis Bank, Union Bank of India and Central Bank of India.
The launch campaign features a 15% cashback offer for POS transactions outside India and an additional 15% in Thailand, Singapore and UAE. Card users can also access JCB’s international services such as in-city card member lounges around the world.
“The NPCI-JCB collaboration is one of the most valued alliances for our home-grown card network, RuPay,” says Dilip Asbe, managing director and CEO at NPCI.
“Our relationship allows RuPay JCB Global Card holders to use their cards at tens of millions of locations around the world. The cardholder will enjoy facilities like JCB Lounges in the airports of China, Japan, Hawaii, Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Korea. With this initiative, both companies will continue to provide high value service to our customers, especially outbound Indian travellers.”
This is the second phase of a strategic partnership between NPCI and JCB, which began in 2017 with the enablement of POS terminals and ATMs in India for incoming foreign JCB card members.
