NCB Employees Co-operative Credit Union in tech revamp with Smart Solution
Canada-based fintech vendor Smart Solution has signed a deal in Jamaica, with NCB Employees Co-operative Credit Union (NCBECCU). The credit union will implement Smart Solution’s flagship core banking system, Universa.
The vendor describes Universa as “an innovative, browser-based digital banking platform” with “endless customisation possibilities” and “seamless new additions”. It will replace NCBECCU’s legacy core processing system. Iean Tait, president and CEO of Smart Solution, says it’s a “major transition” for the credit union.
Joan Garfield, GM of the credit union, says that NCBECCU is “not only member-focused and socially responsive but also technology-driven”. The project with Smart Solution will help the credit union “to strengthen and modernise its infrastructure”, she explains, as well as enhance its services to clients who “are interested in in the ‘fintech edge’ to bolster their financial strategies”.
NCBECCU has over JMD 1.7 billion ($13.4 million) of assets under management. It offers savings, investments, loans and insurance products to its members. It joins a handful of other credit unions in Jamaica that run on Smart Solution’s Universa tech, including Manchester Co-operative Credit Union and COK Sodality Co-operative Credit Union.
