Fingerprints all over Intesa Sanpaolo’s biometric contactless card trial
Fingerprints is enabling Intesa Sanpaolo to pilot the first biometric contactless payment card in Italy.
The card is provided by Gemalto through the bank, with technology from Zwipe.
The card is using a fingerprint sensor from the “FPC1300” series, which activates the card’s contactless capabilities.
It has “ultra-low” power consumption and works with standard contactless POS terminals.
The firm says the security enabled by biometrics will remove the need for a four-digit or longer PIN entry, and eliminate transaction limits on contactless payments.
The companies point out that the card works with the existing payments infrastructure as standard point of sale terminals provide the power necessary to operate.
Just recently, Gemalto unveiled Mini Kiosk to let customers self-issue a fully activated, mobile-enabled, personalised EMV debit or credit card.
