Barclays, RBS and NatWest’s online systems go down
Barclays and Natwest have both suffered online problems as UK banking services yet again fail to work. RBS and Ulster Bank, which are part of the RBS Group, just like NatWest, seem to be sharing NatWest’s fate today.
Barclays started reporting issues with some of its online services sometime early in the morning of yesterday (20 September) on Twitter, as shown by the bank’s responses to its customers.
The official announcement was made at 11:56am – that early, where it announced that online banking, telephone banking, and some mobile banking features were down.
We’ve spotted a technical hitch, but don’t worry – it’s our priority to sort it.

By the start of the day (20 September), 5:41pm, these issues were solved.
Good news – everything’s back up and running.

Last night (20 September), it was the turn of NatWest to go down. Its online and banking services went unavailable, but users could make use of telephone banking and ATM services.
We’re aware of some issues on our Online and Mobile Banking services and are working hard to fix them. Telephone Banking and ATMs are available. Sorry and thanks for your patience.

Judging by its feed, Natwest hasn’t fixed theses yet – at the time of the writing.
By the way, these are not at all uncommon. A little over a month ago, it was TSB that went down – however shortly.
Also last month, Natwest and RBS’ payment system suffered a temporary crash too.
