NatWest and RBS card payments crash
IT issues are at it again in the UK, as NatWest reported today (2 August) a temporary crash of its card payment systems this morning.
Needless to say, disregard the holiday details that our user is experiencing.
Hi Marie, we did experience an issue affecting cards earlier. Very sorry to hear you were affected, this has now been resolved. Please retry the card and let me know if you have any problems. EJ

It seems that the issue also affected Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), which rendered the debit card service unavailable for roughly two hours.
Speaking to FinTech Futures, an RBS spokesperson says: “Debit card payments are now being processed as normal. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. No customers will be left of pocket as a result of this issue.”
Credit cards and ATMs were not impacted.
Stories like these are the reason why the editorial team at FinTech Futures gets up in the morning.
Recently (20 July), in the UK, Halifax, Lloyds, Bank of Scotland and Monzo were hit by an alleged Faster Payments outage. It’s not even the first time it happened just last month.
Last month, we saw issues with Barclays digital banking services, Lloyds’ banking app, and Starling’s payments, among others.
I have not been able to withdraw cash with my Natwest Debit card for over 8 months. I have ordered 3 cards and all of them are unreadable in ATMs but work in chip and pin devices.
I have contacted the bank and they have said that they ‘are aware of this issue affecting a handful of customers’.
They then said that they send the cards to a lab for analysis in Edinburgh. I asked what the outcome of the analysis is? they replied ‘we do not receive feedback from them’.
This has been a major inconvenience as I was in India in January for 3 weeks and could not access any cash.
Natwest have still not given me a satisfactory answer but have given me a random £100.
Not happy, but don’t really know what else I can do.
Mr Crowley.
