Central 1 gives a voice to banking with Alexa
Central 1 is launching Canada’s first authenticated voice banking service using Amazon Alexa.
Two of Central 1 clients, Innovation Credit Union and Conexus Credit Union, are piloting the technology for their bank account management, substituting Alexa for a customer service representative.
These clients will release this service fully this autumn.
The bank says customers can make payments, send money to vendors, transfer money between accounts, and better understand their financial wellness with just their voice.
The supplier says it can also help those who are physically or visually impaired.
“Innovation Credit Union believes that Conversational UI is going to play a significant role in future member interactions, particularly with Millennials and Gen X,” says Dean Gagne, chief digital and technology officer, Innovation Credit Union.

Development of this tech was done in conjunction with Point One Digital, a design agency from San Francisco.
Central one picked Alexa due to the benefits from Amazon Web Services, and due to its “high level of authentication and security measures built in, including an industry standard technology OAuth and voice biometrics security measures provided by Amazon”.
Other Alexa applications include AmazonPay, the firm’s P2P platform.
