Standard Bank SA faces IT crash, again
Standard Bank South Africa’s mobile banking app started experiencing trouble around 11:30 pm UK time, which is an hour ahead in local time.
It seems that, according to Twitter users, the extent of this failure was large, affecting ATMs and online platforms.
Hi, we are currently experiencing a technical issue. Our IT team are working to resolve it. We do apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Although no official notification has been issued, it seems from the Twitter feed that the bank didn’t receive any more complaints regarding unavailable services past a couple of hours after the issue was first reported.
We reached out to Standard Bank to get to know the details of this failure, to no avail so far.
Back in February of this year, the bank went through similar trouble, but they posted it on Facebook. This time, there’s no official announcement so far.
The bank completed its core banking revamp project this year, which saw a long and arduous implementation of SAP’s system within its home country.
For the rest of Africa, Standard Bank uses Infosys’ Finacle.
