WorldRemit brings instant money transfers to CIS markets
Digital money transfer service WorldRemit is now available in Ukraine, Armenia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, expanding its partnership with the Russian “Contact” payment system.
The development follows WorldRemit’s recent service launch across Russia in collaboration with Contact. The firm’s users can now send money to be collected as cash pick up at more than 3,000 locations in Ukraine, 330 POS in Kazakhstan, 120 POS in Belarus and 65 POS in Armenia.
Ismail Ahmed, founder and CEO at WorldRemit, says: “Many migrants living abroad work hard to support family members back home in Ukraine, Armenia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. Until now, they’ve had to endure the inconvenience and high fees from visiting offline money transfer agents.”
WorldRemit says with its app or website, people in more than 50 countries can send money transfers to more than 125 destinations.
Established in 1999, the Contact system offers payment and conversion services in Russia and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries. It consists of more than 900 financial institutions in Russia and abroad, which form a network of 410,000 POS in more than 170 countries.
