Google Ends Support for Some Payment Cards on Android Pay
Google has ended the grace period for unsupported payment cards that can be used with Android Pay. Those cards include products from such financial institutions as Citi, Discover and Wells Fargo, according to a list from Google, available here.
The grace period, which Google in September said would come to an end, comes to a close on Oct. 14. “When we launched Android Pay, we wanted to make sure you could continue using this card since you used it to tap and pay with the old Google Wallet,” Google said in an email this week. “However, we were only able to support this for a limited time.”
Earlier this year, Android Pay began offering support for Chase-issued Visa credit, debit and liquid prepaid cards in the U.S., as well as cards issued by Santander and TSB in the U.K. Among major U.S. banks, Chase previously was a notable holdout on making its cards compatible with Android Pay. Last year, the bank unveiled its own mobile payment service, Chase Pay, but soon after, the bank announced card support for Samsung Pay.
