DirectCash Bank to overhaul core banking tech with Smartsolution’s Universa
Canadian banking tech vendor Smartsolution has gained a new taker for its Universa core banking suite, DirectCash Bank (DCBank).
Calgary-based DCBank offers prepaid Mastercard and Visa cards, corporate accounts, online and mobile banking. It has the largest ATM network in Canada with over 7,500 branded terminals.
Smartsolution says the DCBank project is its “second venture into the province of Alberta and also its second endeavour to provide a full banking platform to a Schedule 1 Canadian chartered bank”.
Jeff Smith, president and CEO of DCBank, says the bank is “excited to be implementing Universa” – as the new platform will provide it with “new and unique possibilities”.
Banking Technology understands Universa will replace the Portfolio Plus system from another Canadian vendor, Strategic Information Technology (SIT), at DCBank.
Earlier this year, Smartsolution signed another domestic financial institution – St Stanislaus-St Casimir’s Polish Parishes Credit Union (Polcu) – for its flagship core offering.
The vendor has been around for nearly four decades, providing banking systems and financial management solutions to banks, trusts and credit unions in Canada and the Caribbean. It is based in Ontario.
Among Universa’s users are Manchester Co-operative Credit Union in Jamaica, Korean (Toronto) Credit Union, CCEC Credit Union, Vancouver Firefighters’ Credit Union, Greater Vancouver Community Credit Union and Slovenia Credit Union.
